Mysore, Mar. 19- With a view to strengthen its working limits and to grow further in the field of music, the K.S. Gangubai Hanagal Music & Performing Arts University, which has gained recognition at the international level, can now enter into MoU with international universities, opined MCC Commissioner K.S. Raikar.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Sri Purandaradasa-Thygaraja Sangeethothsava programme organised by the Music University at its premises on JLB Road here yesterday.
"Work has to be done to retain the city`s title as the `cultural capital` — the birth place of art and music. It is the duty of all of us to further encourage the music field. It is a matter of pride that music scholars of Mysore are conducting music classes in different countries, including in USA. It is therefore necessary to protect and nurture this field of fine arts," he said.
"The Music University in Mysore has to be developed further. The University building has to be recognised as a heritage building. Relevant documents have been sent to the Central Government, in this regard," he said and added that about Rs. 3 crore has been granted for the overall development of the University.
"I had no knowledge about music when I took over as Commissioner. I did not know anything except Dasara and KRS. It was in the later days that learnt that Mysore is famous in many fields like yoga, art, literature and so on. Personally, I feel proud to be working here," said Raikar.
The programme was followed by Hindustani music concert by Varsity VC Dr. Hanumanna Nayaka Dore and Karnatik Music by Vid. Vidyabhushan |
