| Work on Hanuman Monolith begins |

Mysore, Mar. 19 - The sculpting of the 45 ft. monolith Anjaneya Swamy idol proposed to be installed at Avadootha Dattapeetha Ganapati Sachchidananda Ashram on Nanjangud road in city got underway with Ganapti Sachchidananda Swamiji launching the work yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Swamiji said the Anjaneya Swamy (Hanuman) idol, estimated to cost Rs. 50 lakhs, is scheduled to be installed on Dec. 26, when the Kumbabhisheka takes place. The monolith was brought from Andhra Pradesh, with the co-operation of both the State Governments, he said.
Sculptor Subramanyachar, who also spoke on the occasion, said the weight of the monolith was reduced from 300 tonnes to 200 tonnes to facilitate transportation to Mysore. Around 15 sculptors will begin work on the idol from Monday, he added.
The 45 ft. giant monolith of Anjaneya Swamy is said to be the first of its kind to be installed in the State. A 25 ft. high platform is being erected at the right side of the Ashram for installation of the idol.
The monolith was brought to the city on Mar. 11 from Mallela village near Pulivendula in of Andhra Pradesh. The nearly 200 tonnes monolith was transported to Mysore on a 98-wheeler vehicle, it is learnt. |
