Ambarish opens Film Festival

Mysore, Oct. 1- Amidst continuing and deafening cheers from a jam-packed audience at Kalamandira on Hunsur Road in city, rebel star Ambarish lighted the traditional lamp to inaugurate Dasara Film Festival here yesterday.

Speaking after inaugurating the film festival as part of ongoing Dasara festivities, the celebrated star slipped into memory of the Dasara of yesteryears recalling the days when viewing Dasara was synonymous with viewing royalty under lights and stated that the celebrations continued to be held with blessings from Goddess Chamundeshwari.

Film City: Stating that Karnataka had a lot of talented stars, the rebel star called for establishment of a film city to which District in-charge Minister Ramdas immediately responded by saying that a 125-acre plot of land would be given for the film city project.

S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu, Chairman, Film Festival Sub-Committee, in his keynote address said that a film festival on the line of the one in Cannes in France would be celebrated in Mysore with support from the Film Federation of Karnataka and hoped that the same would be named Mysore Film Festival.

Veteran actress Jayanthi recalled the memory of going on a tonga ride and wished success for the festival. MLA H.S. Shankaralingegowda presided. Mayor Pushpalatha Chikkanna, Deputy Mayor M.J. Ravi Kumar, ZP Pre-sident Sunitha Veerappa Gowda, President of Film Chamber of Commerce K.V. Chandrashekar, film stars Leelavathi, Vinod Raj, Aditya, Tara and Shirin were among those present.

Celebrities including Ambarish had a tough time in coming out of the premises as large number of autograph-hunters mainly, school children, virtually gheraoed them.
